Known Thus to All | A Poem by Krushna Chandra Mishra

Known is this to all
that anywhere in need
people in haste may do
things that in result
could bring disaster
to more people, and
for periods never previously
suffered or expected as
when in great need in
despair people move
they do not know if
things they do instantly
are right or not since,
in desperation, when steps
are taken they are steps
well-justified with the period
in mind, and action suited
considered in that mood
that holds ends and not
means are the goals, and
nothing short of the goals
should be accepted even for compromise formulae drawn
as focus on means taking
time could divert eyes from
goals and leave people in
ever-growing misery when
means meaning miseries
shall be the lone accepted
rule raising more questions
and erasing every answer
that, in sanity others, may
offer to make men mean,
means and ends must be
equally held in honour if
lasting gains are due and
not short-term ones must
be touted as urgent.

Losses | A Poem by Krushna Chandra Mishra

What properly are losses
Of people whose love left
Us in positions and stages,
Where looking at us in wonder
We just take time to ask and count
If their love in that clear abundance
Had not been freely then ours when
We needed it the most, though now
From a distance in time and space
As we think the same in some ways,
We should tell them to be returning
With care and honour and pride, we
Are at a loss since they have made us
Wonder and dream about whether,
Once again in life, that same grand time
Would repeat itself to make them feel
How much we do miss them and the fact
That they are never more in our midst to be
Makes us realise what losses really in life are.

Lovely Evenings | A Poem by Krushna Chandra Mishra

Loneliness in evenings, after long fruitless waiting
For cherished visitors, bites and beats and breaks
The spirit to have prepared in great ways to greet
People whose laughter fills your room, emptying it
Of all dullness that keeps gathering in busy times
When out of work, as much as you may want to move
More and more, you find heaps of work raising their heads
Like mountains insurmountable in the regular fashion
To which you are so naturally tied without ever realising
You could definitely have seen them coming had you, but
For your business, just given them a short notice for your
Eager and desperate waiting to spend time in their
Company in all its charm and splendour and magnificent aura.

All These Lovable Acts | A Poem by Krushna Chandra Mishra

Do you doubt my memory
And think all your acts of love,
In great charity, that you have
Bestowed on me should be
Forgotten at a brush of a whip
Someone somewhere in whim
Holds like the letters filling a blackboard
In a classroom full of knowledge and meaning,
The students so avidly take down all, vanish,
Leaving the board empty and clean for a
New set of letters, once again from corner
To corner fill, demanding attention of the class,
And displaying the scholarship of the master
Whose hands create the majestic movements of ideas
On the empty board possible and laudable?

Should you not have faith in you
And your forgotten charities
That, I can never forget
Though your acts of sympathy
And love, have made me
What small and inconsequential
Self I have by your contributions
Become by now.
