Divorce in the age of Facebook | A Poem by Ana Prundaru

Did you ever picture our marriage as a flatiron, curving
thorned roads to a fresh start?

This marriage
belongs to spouses, left
in the dark,
struggling to serve papers
to idling exes.

This marriage
belongs to those who
awaited legal systems to
mirror societal trends. You
may be a fugitive, but everywhere you go, you take
Facebook with you.

This marriage
belongs to those, who prefer
to rip off the band-aid
fast and hard, social media cloaking their wound.

Change is coming. Of that
you can be sure. Virtual
divorce notices
will become routine
in progressing
from married to divorced,
to un-friended and blocked.
