Crushing. A Poem by Guy Farmer

A stranger smiled at her.
She tensed up with anger,
Reliving those crushing
Moments when a smile
Served as a taunt,
A belittling punch to
Keep her in her place,
Anesthetize her joy,
Until she’s ready.
