Between Directions | A Poem by Michael Walter

The surgeon looks at cancer
tries to see its shape;

she contemplates,
then begins to probe.

She hopes that it itself
will guide her knife.

She thinks of tissue
as a landscape,

she seeks delineation
between directions

and then elaborates
on those divisions.
